    Box It Up Tutorial

This tutorial is based on the Handmade Card Keeper but the theory is pretty much the same for the process of all products in the Storage Range by Lyndall Slaney.

                                                                                             ***************************************

Are you like me and leave card making until the very last micro second because you forgot about an upcomming birthday?  The Card Box is a great way to keep track of birthdays and have birthday cards at the ready.  The Card Box comes with handy dividers that you can write on upcoming birthdays month by month.  Or another alternative is to use the dividers to section up between birthday, thinking of you, with sympathy etc, etc cards.  Yet another use for these boxes is storage of photos – just pop a subject on each divider tab!!

Okay on to the tutorial.  The way I am going to show you to assemble and decorate is my prefered way of doing it.  I am really into making it look good from every angle.  Which generally takes longer.  I will however mention short cuts throughout the tutorial for when time is an issue.

    STEP 1

Your Card Box pack will come with a Base piece, 2 side pieces, front piece and a back piece.
Choose a paper colour for the the inside of your box.                         **SHORT CUT.  Paint inside or leave plain.**
Take the Back piece (marked with a ‘B‘).  Apply double sided tape as shown in the diagram above.  Note that the one side (near the B) has the tape applied above the notch as opposed to the other 3 sides which the tape goes right to the edge.  Cut tape away from the 2 notches.
    Remove tape backing.

    Step 2

Stick paper to the Back.  Using a craft knife cut arount the 3 edges and the  2 notches.  Let paper overhang by about 2cm at the bottom, cut the edges in on an angle.  Also cut angles into the notches as shown in the diagram above.

    Step 3

Fold along the bottom at the top of the notch line as shown above.

    Step 4

Repeat step 3 to the front piece (marked with an ‘F‘) and the 2 side pieces (making sure they are opposite ways)(‘marked with an ‘S’).

    Step 5

Using the back piece glue the red flap and also the exposed strip of chipboard.    **HINT - Use a good strong Glue.  My favourite glue is Pritt Multipurpose extra strong Gel.**

    Step 6
    dsc_0042_4262
Slot the male notch on the back piece into the female notch of the Base piece (marked with a ‘Ba’).  **HINT – to hold pieces still while glue is drying use some masking tape on the opposite side to hold in place.  The masking tape can be easily removed later on.**

    Step 7
    dsc_0045_4265
Repeat Step 6 to attach the 2 sides and front. – making sure to glue all edges.

    Step 8
    dsc_0047_4267
Cut out a piece to fit inside the bottom and stick down.   **SHORT CUT – skip this step as the bottom is not on view.**

    Step 9

Stick paper down.  With a pencil draw a parallel line at 1.5cm’s apart.  Cut along this line.  Cut the corners on suitable angles.  Repeat to the other side.

    Step 11

    Step 13

    Step 14

Cut a piece and attach to the bottom.  **SHORT CUT – omit this step, underneath where you will not see it.**
    Decorate at will.
